Research has shown that people who are happy are physically, emotionally and mentally healthier. And…
The Power of Yoga Retreats
You will likely have often heard me talking about the restorative power of going on a yoga retreat – and it is for this fantastic reason (among others!) that I try to create these retreats as often as possible!
Over the last few years I believe it is fair to say that yoga retreats have boomed in popularity. I’m certain that one of the main reasons for this is that more and more people are becoming aware of just how great these retreats can be for recharging – both physically and emotionally.
Today I want to talk all about the power of yoga retreats, and also what you can expect when you join me at a Whole Self Yoga Retreat!
Experience Nature
Depending on where your yoga retreat takes place, it could provide a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and experience the kind of peacefulness that you maybe just can’t find at home.
This change of scenery can be so refreshing for your mind and your spirit. And this also leads me quite nicely into the next point….
Detox Digitally
When you fully immerse yourself in the serenity of a yoga retreat then you will be encouraged, by the facilitator, and also naturally by yourself, to leave the stresses of the digital world behind.
Your time will be spent practicing yoga, meditating, being alone with your thoughts and enjoying new experiences with the other keen yogis in attendance. This will leave little time or desire to scroll through your social media feeds or constantly check in with your emails!
Taking a break from technology is something I recommend that we all do from time to time. This can be for small chunks of time throughout each day, but should also occur in bigger periods of time every now and then.
Not every yoga retreat will be structured in a way that deliberately excludes technology, but each one will certainly be conducive to putting your phone down and leaving it alone!
Reconnect with Your Purpose
Living in the modern day world can be a task in itself. With busy schedules, various sources of stress, and so much to stay on top of, it can be very easy to become disconnected from your purpose and your passions.
Taking a step back from distractions and negativity can truly help you to rediscover what is important to you. What better way to do this than at a yoga retreat with like-minded people that you can share your thoughts, feelings, and intentions with.
Yoga retreats allow for a lot of time for deep meditation and mindfulness practice. This creates opportunities for you to be still with your mind, and to really get to grips with what it is that you want from your life.
When you return to your normal routine after the retreat, then you will have a fresh perspective on how best to make positive changes and move forwards.
Each and every day of a yoga retreat has a purpose and a plan, but one that is never stressful or overwhelming. Living in this way, even if just for a few days, can help you to structure your life and prioritise your own wellbeing.
Find Inspiration
You may find that your regular yoga classes are fantastic, but that the short periods that you get to spend with your instructor every week simply aren’t enough for you.
A yoga retreat enables you to spend much more time with your chosen yogi, which can genuinely help you to absorb all of the inspiration that they have to offer!
Silence Your Mind
Peace and quiet are two things that we all surely crave from time to time. Our lives can be noisy, and so can our minds. This can often be caused by always thinking about the next thing that we have to do or accomplish.
When you are at a yoga retreat, you can become totally immersed in the process, and to understand that everything has been planned out for you – there simply isn’t anything for you to worry about. This means that you can turn off that voice in your head that is always trying to remind you of what you’re not doing, and focus purely on each and every peaceful moment.
Enhance Your Practice
Dedicating a few days, or longer, to focusing on your own yoga practice is a fantastic way to deepen your knowledge and physical capabilities.
