Six Reasons Why You Should Challenge Yourself

Getting too comfortable in a routine is something that we can all surely relate to doing. With busy lives and so many things to stay on top of, it can be easy to feel as though we just don't want to shake things up.

When we live in this way, we might enjoy the peace and the calm that we have created for ourselves, but are we truly living with as much fulfilment as we could have?

If you are someone who doesn't like to challenge themselves, then there could be a number of reasons why this is. Perhaps the fear of failure is putting you off, or perhaps you feel as though you are already content with how things are and you don't want to rock the boat.

It is unfortunately not that likely that fantastic opportunities and experiences will just fall into your lap when you aren't expecting them. You have to seek the positive things you wish to bring into your life, and you will often have to put yourself out there to do so. You have to make yourself vulnerable and you have to accept that you might fail.

Understand Who You Are & What You Want

When you start to think about the ways in which you wish to challenge yourself, then you will become more in tune with what it is you want from life.

You might currently feel as though everything in your life is fine and that you could continue in much the same way, but that doesn't mean that there aren't other things out there!

When you push yourself to take on new challenges then you can develop a fresh perspective on who you are and what you want. from your life. You will likely soon be learning new things about yourself that you hadn't even considered before!

Prioritise The Important Things

In making the decisions on how you will challenge yourself next, you will gain greater clarity on the things that are most important to you.

We all have a finite amount of time to do the things that we wish to do, and this is something that we become all the more aware of as we age. Sometimes this process can be daunting, but it can also light a fire underneath us to get on and do the things that we genuinely wish to do!

Motivate Yourself

Only when you have things to work towards can you feel motivated to move forwards with your life in a productive way.

It can be so easy to put things off — to say that you will do these things in the future and then never get around to them. And, when you do this, you may genuinely do so with the best of intentions to actually stick to these plans. But as you likely already know, life gets in the way with all of its twists and turns, and before you know it these plans are no longer at the forefront of your mind.

Taking action and deciding to challenge yourself in the present moment, regardless of what else is going on around you, is an amazing way to bolster your motivation.

Expand Your Life

When you embark upon new challenges then your life can change in untold ways. You might meet new people, go to new places, and learn things that you had never even thought about before.

Similarly, you will also expand your mind and find that you become much more open to embracing these new experiences.

Enhance Your Creativity

When you are challenging yourself then you will often find that you get stuck — and that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing!

When your process isn't flowing as smoothly as you wish it would, then this is when your mind is going to jump into action to come up with imaginative solutions. You will develop your understanding of what it is that you are trying to do and this can enhance your creativity in exciting new ways!

Feel Accomplished

Even when you do not succeed at something, there is a sense of accomplishment to be gained in having tried. And, when you do succeed, then the positive feelings around doing so can really fuel your personal growth.

Taking stock of your goals and deciding which ones will bring you the greatest happiness once complete is a good way to decide how to move forwards.

Will the promotion you have been working towards really make you feel good? Or do you actually want to make the career change that you have been thinking about for years?

Will losing those ten pounds really help you to feel better about yourself? Or would embarking on a serious self-care routine bring you greater happiness in the long run?

As you continue to develop your mindset in this way, you will find that you no longer fear the unknown, and that you have the strength to overcome anything that life throws at you.

Take some time to make a list of all of the truly positive and negative aspects of your life. You can then assess the things that you want to hold onto and enjoy more of, and you will also become aware of the things that you would like to change or get away from.

Writing this list can make you aware of things that you hadn't even thought of as entirely negative. You know, those things that you tolerate because you haven't given yourself permission to make changes. Allow this list to be the starting point and the encouragement that you want and need!

As you move forwards with your plans you are going to find that your feelings about yourself and your life start to develop and improve, in turn equipping you to continue making better choices!
