Finding ways to increase and maintain your energy levels is so important if you are to feel your best during each day. If this is something that you struggle with, then you will know first-hand just how much of an impact it can have on your life!

Today I am sharing with you the top ten ways in which I believe you can increase your energy levels!

These are actions that you might want to explore one at a time, or you might want to embrace them all at once.

1) Reduce or eliminate caffeine

  • The impact of caffeine on the body and mind includes dehydration, fluctuating blood sugar levels, frequent mood swings, and increased feelings of anxiety.
  • If you are someone who relies on a regular caffeine fix to get you through the day, then try to limit your intake.
  • The quick burst of energy that you get from that cup of coffee will soon come crashing down, leaving you wanting more.

2) Drink water

  • This one is so simple but so important – did you know that most Americans are chronically dehydrated!
  • Before you go to sugar or caffeine, have a glass of water and wait a few minutes to see what happens.
  • Caution: Soft drinks are now America’s number one source of added sugar.

3) Eat dark leafy green vegetables

  • Green is associated with spring, the time of renewal and refreshing, vital energy.
  • Greens are full of vitamins and nutrients and are great for improving circulation, lifting the spirit, purifying the blood and strengthening the immune system.
  • Broccoli, collards, bok choy, kale, mustard greens, broccoli rabe, arugula and dandelion greens are some of the many to choose from.

4) Use natural sweeteners

  • Avoid sugar and chemicalized artificial sweeteners.
  • Use natural sweeteners like maple syrup, brown rice syrup, agave nectar and stevia.
  • You can eat sweet vegetables such as yams, carrots and beets to satisfy your sweet tooth.

5) Get physicalLy active

  • Start with simple activities, like walking or yoga—start with 10 minutes a day and increase.
  • Enjoy a variety of different exercises so that you do not get bored. This is also important for challenging your body in different ways.

You may think that exercise will drain your energy and therefore you avoid it. But exercising regularly will actually raise your energy levels, as well as improve your mood and boost your stamina.

Even as little as 30 minutes, three times a week could help to get you on track. Yoga is a great choice because it also promotes relaxation while you exercise.

6) Get more sleep, rest, and relaxation

  • When you are tired or stressed, your body will crave energy.
  • These cravings are often a result of being sleep-deprived, going to bed late, or waking up early for months or years on end.
  • Break out of this exhausting cycle by giving yourself permission to have more sleep when you know that you need it.

It is essential to your continued good health and your energy levels that you aim to get eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Give yourself a bedtime and do your best to stick to it.

As you get into this routine your sleep cycle will improve and you will approach each day full of energy and motivation.

7) Evaluate the amount of animal products that you eat

  • Eating too much meat, dairy, chicken and eggs can lead to low energy.
  • Consider increasing the amount of plant-based foods that you eat each day.
  • Aim for a healthy and balanced diet that includes a wide range of different foods.
  • Creating a meal plan for yourself can really help to ensure that you are eating a good balance of foods.

8) Take time for yourself

  • Find activities that restore your energy, such as a walk, a bath, a museum visit, a movie, or whatever you enjoy, and schedule a weekly date with yourself to do these things!
  • Taking time alone is so important for your mental health and can help you to reset your mind, especially after a difficult day.

Feeling in control of your day is essential to keep your energy and your mood on track. So if you need to take some time to have some fun then give yourself this treat.

9) Get in touch with your spirituality

  • We are spiritual beings in a physical world.
  • Find ways to get in touch with your spiritual side, be it through meditating, dancing, drawing, going to church or temple, or being in nature.
  • Spirituality means different things to different people, so try to explore and understand what it means to you.

10) Get rid of relationships that drain you

  • People can drain you of your energy. It doesn’t mean that they are bad, but it is good to notice who drains you and why.
  • Assess whether these are relationships that you really need and want to maintain.
  • See if you can transform those relationships by communicating and setting boundaries, or end the relationship.

You may immediately think that you don’t have time to do any of the things I have suggested. If so, I want you to really evaluate how you spend your day. If you know that you spend time watching TV, surfing the internet, talking to your friends on the phone etc, then you already have your answers!
