If you’re a business owner in 2018 who isn’t utilising the power of social media then it is likely that you are missing out on gaining new customers, as well as missing opportunities to build relationships with your existing ones!

Social media has become an incredibly powerful tool for business owners over the past decade or so. It has helped people to get the message of their brand out into the world, to showcase their products or services, and to truly tell the story of who they are and what they do.

Building Your Yoga Business

When you are building your yoga business, harnessing the power of social media to help you grow is not only a sensible idea, but could actually be the key to your success.

Using social media allows your followers to really get to know you. It gives you the opportunity to share your story with the entire world, as well as locally within your community. As a yoga teacher, the majority of your work is likely to come from your local area, especially if you are just now at the beginning of your career. So, having an efficient way to reach these people can be the key to your initial growth.

Getting Started with Social

One of the first things that you will have to do is to decide which social media platforms will best support your brand as a yoga teacher. Facebook and Instagram are two great choices, and have definitely helped me to spread my message and to reach people who would may not have otherwise come across my business.

Facebook is widely accepted as the best platform out there for building awareness around your brand. One of the very simple reasons for this is that so many people use this platform. Approximately three quarters of all American adults have a Facebook profile, with many of these people accessing the website every single day.

Instagram is another great choice, and as a yoga teacher you will naturally have loads of fantastic content to share on this site. You can make videos of yourself practicing your favourite poses, take photos of these poses once perfected, and also share relevant content that your followers will find interesting and entertaining. This could include things such as the beautifully prepared meals that you eat before and after you practice yoga, some of the stunning places in which you do yoga, and even the clothes that you choose to wear on the mat.

You may also find Pinterest to be a good place to share your photos as well as links to new content on your website.

Creating Content for Social Media

One of the main problems with social media today is how over-saturated it is with content that is often not relevant to you, not interesting to you, or arguably has no real value at all. Not only does this kind of content clog up your news feed, but it can also discourage you from wanting to engage with a specific person or brand if they do this repeatedly.

When you are creating content to share on your social media platforms, always stop and ask yourself what the value of this content is. Who is going to benefit from your photo or from your post?

Establishing a social media schedule for yourself is totally fine if you have enough valuable content to share, but posting things just for the sake of posting something is not beneficial to your followers, and is definitely not beneficial to your brand. If your followers are moved to share your content within their own networks, then this is a sure sign that you have done a good job!

Look at the Data

One of the great things about using social media to boost your business is that you have access to a wide range of data about your posts. You will be able to see what people are clicking on, what they are sharing, and some general information about the people who are responding to you and your content.

Looking at your data will also help you to know what kind of content your followers like best. You will be able to see if more people are interacting with your photos, text posts, web links, memes, or anything else that you may have been sharing! You will then be able to adjust your social strategy accordingly, and create more of the kind of content that you know is going to get you noticed.

Offer Your Followers Something

A great way to keep your followers engaged and interested in what you are doing, is to offer them something of value to show your appreciation. This could be in the form of a discount, or even a free pass, to one of your classes, or perhaps some free exclusive content, such as videos that only your followers can access.

The point of this is to show your followers that you appreciate that they take the time to check in with what you’re up to and for their support!

Invest in Your Strategy

Building a social media following for your business from scratch can be a long and difficult task. The majority of social media platforms are noisy, over-crowded places, and people don’t tend to pay attention to the same thing for too long!

Paying to boost your posts, and to show them to the right people, is a simple way to secure more followers and to encourage ongoing interaction with your content.

The targeting options for building paid adverts on social media are increasingly specific and effective, thereby allowing you to really choose the exact people that you want to engage and communicate with!

Setting up your own paid campaigns can be a bit tricky at first, so it’s always a good idea to either seek professional guidance, or to teach yourself the basics with some online tutorials before you dive in. Investing your time and your money into your business in this way could soon see your follower numbers soar and your yoga business thrive!

  1. Thank you for the wonderful advice! It is fairly easy to make social media mistakes, for a lack of a better word, and I love your advice on not scheduling too much for the sake of posting yet another picture. What is your opinion on how can we tie our audience to be more proactive? Do we need to create more social media contests or what is it that will make people share and use your brand hashtags?
