Yoga teachers today have such a wide variety of options when it comes to the different ways they can share their passion for yoga. With so many different styles of yoga to choose from, there is surely something for everyone within this profession.

Working as a yoga teacher is such a wonderful way to have an amazing and personally fulfilling job. The relationships that you develop with your students will be like no other, and you will always encounter new challenges and experiences.

Yoga teachers are tasked with sharing their love of yoga and their wisdom on the topic with their students. This is a wonderful challenge, but one you may sometimes need help with!

Your time spent in yoga teacher training will have equipped you to embark upon your career as a yoga teacher. It will have taught you the necessary skills to get on the mat and guide your students, and it will also have served as an excellent networking opportunity.

Once you have graduated from your teacher training, it is natural to seek further guidance as you push ahead with your goals and ambitions.

The following are five teaching tips that I believe all yoga teachers can benefit from. These tips will help you to be the very best for your students and to help them become the best that they can be!

1) Go Into Detail

When you are getting started with teaching yoga, it can be easy to forget that your students do not know what you know!

Even in the most advanced classes, going into detail when explaining how to flow into a pose and how to hold it can be of great use to your students. If you give an explanation that is vague because you assume that everyone understands, then you risk allowing some people to fall behind.

It is important to be aware that not everyone will be comfortable to speak up and ask questions. Therefore it is imperative that you always give clear and concise instructions that go into the appropriate amount of detail. Yoga teachers should always embrace the responsibility of ensuring everyone in a class completely understands what they are doing.

2) Become A Great Communicator

Your success as a yoga teacher will rely heavily on your ability to communicate effortlessly. You need to be able to express yourself to your students and to have your intentions understood by all.

Becoming a great communicator takes ample time and patience. It is not a skill you will be able to develop overnight – even if you already believe you are pretty good at it!

You can practice this concept by always genuinely listening to what a person is saying when they are talking to you. Truly hear their words and consider what they are really trying to say. Pay attention to their body language while they are talking to you, and be sure to ask as many questions as you need to in order to clarify a point.

Make sure you always take the time to think before you speak to someone, and do not let an uncomfortable silence rush your thoughts. Speak clearly and directly, and try to always have a friendly and approachable attitude and tone.

3) Do Not Forget To Breathe

The breath is simply one of the most important aspects of a yoga practice. When you are flowing through a class, you might not always remember to guide your students in managing their breathing.

Reminding yourself often of the importance of the breath, and prioritising this in your own practice, will ensure you avoid this issue.

Talk to your students regularly about why the breath is so essential and invite any questions on the topic.

4) Balance Your Life

Maintaining a sense of balance in all areas of your life is a great way to support your work on the mat. When you are free from distractions, stresses, and worries, then you can truly focus on your teaching.

It is of course impossible to live a life free from these things, but it is possible to seek resolutions and resolve problems before they become too large. By dealing with any issues in your life as soon as possible, you can help to prevent these things from seeping into other areas of your life.

When considering how to balance your life, it is also a good idea to think about how you want to spend your time, as well as who you want to give your time to. When you feel good about the choices that you make each day, then you will start to live an authentic life that is in balance.

This will do so much for you as a yoga teacher. You will radiate peace, calm, and positivity in all that you do.

5) Wholly Embrace Your Own Yoga Practice

Your own yoga practice should never be negated when you are working as a yoga teacher. You may feel as though it becomes less important because you are spending so much time teaching yoga to others. However, this simply is not true.

You need to give yourself the time to truly immerse yourself in your practice often. This will enable you to continuously reconnect to yoga, and to remind yourself of why you wanted to teach in the first place.
